Walking

There are three formal walking routes within the boundaries of the nature reserve which are detailed below. In addition to these, there are numerous other waymarked routes outside of the reserve, details of which can be found here.

Ridge of Capard short looped walk

This 750m walk takes visitors from the car park, via a boardwalk, to the viewing platform which affords magnificent views of the surrounding countryside. This is a popular, short walk which is part of the longer Glenbarrow Loop.

Capard Route

This walk extends from the viewing platform and takes walkers further onto the Nature Reserve. It is approximately 2km in length and there are options to return along the same route; walk through the ‘Lost Village’; or continue on the Glenbarrow Loop. This section of the boardwalk is graded as moderate.

Ridge of Capard to Stoney Man

This is the longest and most challenging route that can be accessed from the car park. At 5km and taking approx 1.5 hours, it is a challenging trail on more difficult terrain with increased elevation. The magnificent views give this walk a really open feel.
