The Slieve Blooms Mountains Nature Reserve provides some opportunities for walking, for birdwatching and for the quiet enjoyment of nature. Because the Nature Reserve consists entirely of peatland habitats which are vulnerable to erosion from trampling, sustainable trail surfaces have been provided on the Ridge of Capard (see walking section).
The Nature Reserve is also home to important ground nesting bird species, which are prone to disturbance, so if dogs are brought into the Nature Reserve, they should be on leads at all times, and dog foul should be removed.
Laybys and picnic spots with good views of the Nature Reserve lands are found throughout the mountains.
A plan for visitor experience of the Nature Reserve is in preparation and will be published here when finalised.
